Remotely Operated Vehicles or, ROVs provide a unique and custom opportunity in the marine environment. Typically, with existing services of using commercial divers significant lead time and expensive processes meant once costly operations were only available to larger industrial operations such as offshore platforms and the likes.
Now, with more scalable ROVs the opportunities have literally changed the game. Whilst commercial divers will forever have a place and are essential in particular circumstances, ROVs can fill a gap and allow anyone to possess crucial information when they need it most. Moreover, the safety, financial and time sensitive requirements have completely changed for the better. This means that we can get to you, understand what you need and then offer services that meet your needs, without having to charge what it would cost for divers, get in the water faster and most importantly, not risk human life to the same extent that you would with having a diver in the water.
Let’s explain further…

Safety.
Commercial Diving Operations are highly Specialised.
Having a diver at any depth for any prolonged time will produce physiological effects on the body. These effects require specific safety margins and decompression times to ensure the safety of the diver. Translation; it takes time to plan, factor in, and execute these limitations on the diver and if calculations or, any process goes wrong it can be harmful or even fatal to the diver. Futhermore, a diver is limited to diving limits such as: temperature, currents, exposure limits and many more factors that essentially ROVs are not. Translation; an ROVis immune to many of the risk factors that divers are and as such, are a much better option in most circumstances. |

Cost. |
Commercial Diving Operations are expensive.
Of course, this generalisation is not taking into account highly specialised works that currently only commercial divers can offer. These are things such as welding and manipulating using fine motor skills which currently ROVs can not do. In general however, with the essential and likely costs of: Support vessel/s, a minimum of three operators, set-up times, decompression times and many more factors, the total costs of commercial diving operations are therefore factored in to any job. Translation; without even getting wet, the weighted cost average comparison for using an ROV compared to a commercial diver is significantly less. |
Time.
There’s no two ways about it, ROVs are faster.
Using any ROV will save you time. This is because compared to a commercial diver, the device can be taken in and out of the water faster and does not require the same level of complex paperwork, approvals, checks or, monitoring in comparison. Translation; using an ROV is much faster and will save you time. Furthermore; his means when using an ROV more time can be spent on station (at the job site) underwater to examine, measure and understand any requirements needed for action, follow up or review. |
